Well, I failed in the final stretch of the month. I wasn't able to blog yesterday, but I've always thought blogging should be secondary to actual life activities, so I don't feel too bad. There was a lot of life happening!

+

Let's start with Thursday.

Thanksgiving for my family means driving up to New Hampshire for a Parker reunion. Family members fly out from all over the states and it usually reaches upwards of fifty people. And this time we brought Jaime, and I did my best to warn her. She was greeted with lots of welcomes, as Parkers always do.

There were a lot of families with all their kids looking so much older than the year before and as always, lots of dogs. We had our grand feast which takes up four long tables in the house. Jesse and myself (like we do every year) strategically placed ourselves in the alcove that also had a television that would play the football game.

After the meal, the bravest of the attendees changed into their athletic gear for the traditional annual football game. Jaime and myself simply drove up to the field in the car and watched from the front seats - heated front seats. We did not envy those playing out there in 20 degree weather.

That evening we returned to my parents home to let the tryptophan sink in and watch a movie, like we do. However, the quiet evening and great day ended on a sad note when we learned of the passing of the wonderful Miss Louise. She is at peace now, and she fought to the last, but she will be tremendously missed. Missed especially during these holidays, when we would see her most.

+

The day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday to most, but Rhode Island Thanksgiving to us! Yup, we do it all over again the next day. But with a much more intimate crowd that just includes my Uncle Arthur and Tia Kim and their son James. My aunt always makes a grand meal, and this year the meal even went on under the news of the previous night; Miss Louise was Uncle Arthur's mother. But he and the rest of the family did not want to break tradition, because Miss Louise would have wanted it to go on.

The second part of Rhode Island Thanksgiving after the meal includes the rest of my Uncle's family gathering at the house for libations and good conversation. Given the news, the gathering was a bit more subdued without the presence of Miss Louise, but it was still a lovely evening in which we caught up, and mostly reveled in the good memories of this most outstanding woman.

You can see now, I think, why I didn't take the time to sit at my iPad for a long stretch of time.

+

One of my "cousins" (we feel like cousins though we technically aren't - she's my Uncle Arthur's sister's daughter), just returned from a semester in Ireland and brought back with her a liking for Jameson. So last night Katie was greeted we a giant bottle of it for the festivities. And everybody drank to the memory of Miss Louise, her grandmother.

+

It was awesome to see and talk with everyone; the room was alive.

+

The ride home was raucous as well, what with my Rdio account streaming the hits, like Harry Belafonte's "Jump in the Line." The whole car was dancing the way back to  Massachusetts, some of us with Jameson to help.

Only two more days left of this vacation! Today is the last day of November, and though I didn't reach my goal, I definitely got back into the swing of blogging. I will continue, but posting a blog a day may not be feasible with all the December activities!

Wouldn't it be good if you could stay?

I've unofficially deemed today Jason Schwartzman Day. I listened to Coconut Records on the way into work, because hey, those songs are fun and I like Jason Schwartzman. If you like Jason Schwartzman you should probably go see Scott Pilgrim vs The World this weekend because he's hilarious as an evil-ex and it's definitely the most fun thing you will see this summer.

Anyway.

It's Friday and I'm frazzled from the week and all of its activities. This post will make little to no sense. Ready?

Okay. Last night I met up with Awesome Blogger Zan and we concluded the following things:

1. While some people may differ on whether they liked Inception or not, the fact remains: everybody has had a conversation about it after they've seen it. Some people are still talking about it (like us!) and I think that's enough for it to be deemed worthwhile.

2. Friday Night Lights is the best television show. Season 4 just ended, and Zan and I agree it was the best season yet. It feels like its own little world, a neighborhood you live in occasionally. Zan and I SHARE the memories of Coach, Saracen, Julie, Tami, Riggins, etc. They are our friends. I mean...anybody who watches that show feels the same way, right?

3. At the other end of the stick, Entourage is still on television and also, do people still watch it?! It's THE WORST. Zan caught a minute or two of this season and shared her horrifying experience with me. If you still watch Entourage, tell me WHY. I can't fathom why anyone would still think that show is worthwhile or watchable, and I used to love it.

Here is Awesome Blogger Zan and her lovely eyelashes:

She doesn't use this mascara product.

After three Shanghai cocktails, I headed downtown to meet up with the husband and a couple of friends to see Chris Hardwick, he of Web Soup and Singled Out fame, do some stand up comedy. True to form, it was hilarious, and because Jesse has met Chris before, we talked to him for a while after the show. About many nerdy things. And I told him I'd need a picture with him, and after three he finally approved this one (celebrities!) -

If you live in New York, or anywhere, you should check out his stand-up (& Nerdist podcast!). It gave me stomach pains, in a good way. And I yelled "Singled Out!" when he mentioned he got stopped on the street in the 90s. Dude, I don't think I missed an episode of Singled Out. Also, I totally remember how it was used in Romy & Michelle's High School Reunion when they were trying to get boyfriends and they were too old for MTV. File under: things that shouldn't take up room in my brain but they DO.

Then we ended the night at another bar where there were a bunch of Frenchies, a Japanese guy, a French guy that looked like Daniel Faraday from LOST and a bartender that looked like Sayid. No lie. Amber, Kelly, Tyler were there - the best ones, the normies. Oh, and these people.

All in all it was quite a night, and while some of the guys were "talking shop" I got another level to three stars on Angry Birds. Slowly but surely all those levels will have three stars.

And now my final question: who else loves Jason Schwartzman?

My weekend home!

My brother and I!

My lovely mother and father!

Things I learned:

My mom now has a direct line to Panama, which required a special phone. This phone does not have a headset jack, and therefore, she makes do with a rubber band in order to keep her hands free for cooking and other general things she needs to do around the house. For instance, in this picture, she's sitting on the couch.

For Christmas, my mom, brother and I pitched in to buy my father a motorized snowblower/remover thingamajig for the constant snowing that occurs in the New England winters. I'm happy to know that he loves it very much, and when even a sprinkling of dust has settled on the asphalt, he's out there ready to banish it!

I also got to hang out with Emily over some coffee and it was as awesome as I knew it would be! We met as we're both friends with those Monty boys, and we're also both getting wed this year! I don't think we stopped talking for two straight hours. Her blog's amazing, hilarious, and she's totally right about the voice thing when reading!! Emily - can't wait to hang again!

And now I'm back home and the weather today was so horrendous there's nothing more I want to do then curl up on the couch with the kittens. And my computer - of course.

And I said, I've gotta be honest...

Yesterday I was on Dashboard Confessional's site trying to find when his tour would be coming around these parts, because Aileen is on that tour with the Plain White T's. I thought it would be fun to scream my lungs out to some Dashboard while hanging out with a friend. Unfortunately, they're playing TODAY in Connecticut, so that plan was a bust.

However, my "websurfing" was not - I came upon this picture on the Dashboard news/blog page -

- and I had this weird moment. I recognize that couch, I thought. Those walls. I know that room... and then I remembered that Dashboard has been recording his/their latest album with Adam Schlesinger, who, last year, was producing Motion City Soundtrack's album.

It was February 2007, and my new friend Jesse told me I should stop by "the studio" after work to pick him up, as Erica, Jesse, and I were going to see The Matches that night. I was totally psyched, but more cause I was invited to this little enclave of music-making for a band I just happened to like...a lot. Jesse was an awesome dude, already proving to be a fun time, and I generally approved of him - cause he was interested in my best friend. (Okay, I know, this is getting tricky, maybe I'll tell THAT whole story another day...) Anyway, I met him at the studio, and I sat on that couch that's pictured, probably totally smiling (and squealing on the inside) while he played me a couple of cuts from what would eventually be Motion City Soundtrack's Even if it Kills Me.

After we left the studio, we grabbed a cab to meet up with Erica for dinner before the show, and, like typical rush-hour Manhattan, we got held up in traffic. It didn't seem to phase either of us though, because we had the best conversation. You know, one of those conversations. You're talking about nothing and everything and suddenly it's very deep but there's a nice rhythm between your exchange of words, with dabbles of joined laughter and smiling silences...

When I got out of the cab, my stomach felt weird. What was that?? Oh, right. We dined with Erica, then went to the show and met up with friends. We continued to joke and hold conversation with ease. We headed to the afterparty, and then as the night neared it's end, I just told him:
"By the way, I like you."

It didn't feel strange though; he smiled, didn't say much, and I told him I'd see him tomorrow, at another show. I love that night. We both regard it as pretty awesome. Because - hey oh! - now we're engaged! And so that story literally rushed into my mind yesterday when I recognized that couch in that picture and realized the last time I was in that room.

One final note - Carrabba, I'm going to veto corduroy hats, thanks -
