Scenes from winter.

The four of us entered the warm cafe last Saturday morning; our cheeks red with cold. We were all smiling and exclaiming in greeting despite the frigid air we just escaped. Our eyes focused on the birthday girl woman and slid down to her growing belly, trying to tell the difference from when the each of us saw her last (me, one week). She's the first of us, and we are learning. We noticed new, flattering glasses on one of us and discussed the raw wound of a new heartbreak and there were heated (but loving) disagreements on a novel we'd read. The birthday woman described some information about pregnancy none of us understand yet; she knows to disseminate the knowledge as we are all eagerly listening for that maybe, someday.

And I write like this now because we are 'we.' We are sisters, and we are all different, but most of the time, like that Saturday morning, we all move in unison and speak in that language that only we understand. We laugh at the jokes that are impossible to understand if overheard. We know to rely on each other when we need to, and we know happiness isn't a status but each other.

"Your skin isn't dry?"

I wasn't sure what the manicurist was so confused about, which is why she probably continued: "For months, every single girl has dry skin because of winter. Why are your hands so soft?"

Apparently my new winter routine, which I enacted after noticing my scaly skin in Panama, has been somewhat successful. The Beauty Department posted a Dry Brushing 101 tutorial, and I was intrigued by the dry brushing concept and benefits, and the whole moisturizing with body oil before a shower (and after). So, to Amazon I went - buying a body brush and body oil. Surprisingly, body brushing doesn't hurt, but rather feels invigorating, especially in the morning. And the oil feels great, something I wasn't sure my texturally-hyper-aware and non-sticky sensibilities would like. My skin feels wonderful and I'll be sticking to this routine through to warmer weather.

That's the one winter beauty tip that I can pass along.

Jesse arrived in Minneapolis last week on a day in which the high was 0 degrees. New York's had a few 'feels like 0' days, though. We've been sharing a lot of chapped kisses these days, but it's been nice to have him close on the cold nights. We don't usually watch a lot of television together, but we've snuggled close for True Detective and the BRILLIANT Broad City and now we're amidst The Returned (which is a French show that is not associated with that new U.S. show Resurrection, lest you heard wrong). I hope we'll be able to venture out more often (not that we've been exactly hibernating - can you truly hibernate in New York and stay sane?), but at least in a couple of weeks we'll be sunning ourselves at a wedding in warmer climates. I can't wait.

Harmless ghosts on a staircase.

Last night my best friends and I sipped libations around a cozy fire in the basement of a bar. We had woken up yesterday, surprised by the temperatures in the near 70s. By the time we all left work and arrived at the bar, after several rainstorms, it was in the 30s. The fire worked wonders to warm us!
So did their company. Kelly, Amber, Erica, Jiscilla and I discussed many a topic... they included:
  • Future Friendsgiving date and what we'll each be bringing
  • Work
  • The Paramore show we're going to next week
  • Mom weddings
  • Maybe a wedding, maybe not a wedding
  • Teens with babies, getting married
  • Teens getting divorced
  • Something is clearly wrong with Doug Hutchison
  • Carrie Mathison and Olivia Pope
  • People who think they are in an online relationship with Lil Bow Wow
  • James Deen
  • Rich people who buy $400,000 worth of lingerie
  • Rich people who buy lots of lingerie and then leave it at the store for over 10 years
  • Murder (probably our most frequent topic always laced with "Dateline" and "20/20" shout-outs)
  • Specifically, the murder featured in the documentary The Staircase
  • Murders by ghosts
  • How many murders in the world are actually by ghosts
  • The lesser known defense "a ghost did it"
  • Why don't more people believe in ghosts?????
That's just a taste of how our evenings together usually go.

+

Afterwards, Amber came over for our weekly viewing of Scandal. We talked more about murders while I prepared her a lavender lemon gin fizz. A few weeks ago when I was at my parent's home, I clipped some of my mom's lavender bush to save a few sprigs before leaving. I proceeded to take two mason jars, fill them with gin, and then split the sprigs between them. After sealing them tight and leaving them in a cool, dark place for a few weeks, I now had: lavender-infused gin.

It smells a lot like lavender moonshine when you first strain it, but it's delicious with some lemon and perrier mixed in. I love the taste of lavender, and so it was sipping these cocktails that we continued our discussion. Then we realized it was nearing midnight and we still hadn't watch Scandal, but we had a damn good time just sitting, sipping, and discussing life. That's why we're best friends. The time just evaporates as the conversation continues.

+

Tonight I hope to get in a couple of good hours of S reading after work. Later I'll be celebrating my good friend Justin's 30th birthday...and hopefully not sneaking away early to read more of S like a loser!

+

My friend Adam (and his friend) designed a t-shirt! It's only available until midnight tonight! CHECK IT OUT FOR ULTIMATE NERDERY AND FUN!!

Happy weekend!

Last night was a bonefied laugh RIOT at the New York Comedy Festival's HERsterical show. I didn't realize going into it that it would be an all-female comedy show, and I was pleasantly surprised, and then continuously laughing for the duration. All proceeds from the fun show went to Gilda's Club.

We saw comics like Nikki Glaser, Alyse Kenney, and Marina Franklin--whose set I could barely breathe during, it had me (and Jaime) laughing so hard. Vanessa headlined and she's really great at doing on impersonation of herself telling a joke about sex.

Afterwards, while Jaime and I were discussing the show in our seats as everyone filtered out, a guy in a black windbreaker came up to us and said "You guys! You guys were great, you were like part of the show!" CREEP ALERT. Why were you staring at us laughing at a comedy show?

+

We met up with Vanessa and friends at a bar later and I got to ask her all about important things like Mindy Kaling's wardrobe, Chris Messina's smirk, and Kerry Washington's all-around adorable-ness. I gathered this information and stored it away for future use in my everyday life, of course.

+

I arrived at home too tired to read any more of S, though it's all I was thinking about on the train ride home. The only energy I had left to muster was to call Jesse for our nightly talk. It's always a treat to come home and hear his voice even if it's miles away.

+

After work today I'm heading to a bi-weekly happy hour meet-up with my best friends. It's something I always look forward to. It's easy to lose track of time with everyhing this city throws at our schedules, so we make sure to hang out every other week to catch-up.

I was talking to Kelly one evening about a month ago when we met up after work and I told her how when I was in high school, I couldn't imagine the job I was doing, but I did imagine that it'd be in New York. And I saw myself meeting up with her for a happy hour cocktail to recount our respective days -- which is what we were doing at that moment. Sometimes it's the small things like that that make me smile when they come to fruition.

Below, a digest of my weekend.

The husband delighted me with tickets to the Red Sox/Yankees game on Friday. We rejoiced through most of the game and became friends with the only Sox fans sitting nearby--a man wearing a Nomar Garciaparra shirt and his young Sox-jersey clad son. We watched the father lean over to explain certain plays to the boy, and the boy learning to high-five with his baseball glove on.

It's the second time I was able to witness a Red Sox grand slam live - a most welcome sight at Yankees Stadium.

And now a comparison: this is a photo of me when we first arrived at the ballpark, excited to be at a game. Then there is a photo of Jesse and I (taken by the Garciaparra fan) after the game. When I'm over-excited, my smile shrinks my eyes to oblivion. Or perhaps it was all the beer?

When we arrived back in Brooklyn flush with pride (and beer) for our team, not even subway-replacing hellish shuttle buses could deplete our energy. We decided to walk home through the streets of Brooklyn. This photo encapsulates how great the scenic route on a Friday night in Brooklyn can be:

Saturday I traversed Brooklyn in the shuttles to meet up with friends, and because it was a terrible experience, I'd rather not even think about it again nor discuss it here.

But my friends are another story. I laughed so much throughout the day, usually with a glass of wine in hand. At one point we gathered at my friend Amber's lovely home and discussed new jobs and tree snakes and eyebrow shaping.

These two recently began new positions and they were comparing their respective acclimations here:

Then we went to a bar, and the ensuing fun and BFF'ing can be summarized in the quietest moment of the night:

I crawled into bed with a smile, fielded a call from a girlfriend with a boy problem, handed off sage advice I hope, and texted Jesse goodnight since he was still out with all my girls' better halves. This strategy works well; when we tell the guys we're having a ladies night, suddenly a dudes night is scheduled.

Today was an (at first) exciting day of football. However, my fantasy teams both languished and the Patriots were not looking too good. In other news, I re-shaped my eyebrows, or, rather attempted to re-shape my eyebrows and let's all hope for the best.

This week I hope for good news on all angles and a quieter week at work.

My friends, in fact, rule.

Well, well, well, it's already September! Add in a cliche about time moving so quickly, and that will have to suffice for how busy I've been. Two important matters to broach today, however:

First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BESTIE AMBER!

We've been friends since the 8th grade! We're two similarly-minded ladies who grew up in the military and as of last year, live in the same city together again - something which I cherish and never take for granted. Especially when I want to watch French movies or go to a book swap: she's always there! Three cheers to beauty splurges, bacon arms, and many more years of friendship!

Secondly, it's the end of an era! Erica and I moved into our Brooklyn apartment together FOUR years ago! As of yesterday, she's resettled a borough north in Queens and her new places sounds fabulous. We're both stoked on everything right now - neither of us are those "scared of change" type people. Congratulations to Erica and her new digs, as well as a toast in commemoration of our first years of navigating New York together!

My friends are the best and I am - every day - so honored to have them in my life!

Happy (Belated) Birthday Jiscilla!

Yesterday I thought a post went up regarding my dear Jiscilla's birthday. IT NEVER SHOWED. And then she herself made a cute post on her blog of the pictures I took of her when Tyler gave her The Gift. Check out the adorableness!

As this is belated, you'll be happy to know that Jiscilla indeed had a glorious birthday. Since she was miles away in Connecticut, I celebrated personally last night by joining her boyfriend, my husband, and two hooligans (Jim and Ben) with some happy hour sushi & sake. I missed Jiscilla.

Jiscilla, she who takes fabulous photos and looks like the third Zooey Deschanel/Katy Perry doppleganger, is the sweetest unicorn you will ever meet. She's the ultimate Celebrities player, perfect party pixie, and she has the greatest dance moves I've ever witnessed. When I met her at a show in Providence five years ago, I definitely had no clue she would one day be celebrating my wedding next to me as a bridesmaids. In a word, she's wonderful.

Happy Birthday, Jiscilla!

I'd trade in my plot of land for a plane to anywhere.

Happy New Year! I owe an update, I know. I've just been having so much fun!

I still have to post a couple of more answers to your questions, a recap of my 52 Books in 2009 project, and MORE. Yes, there's more. I won't do a recap besides the books, because I'm pretty sure everyone knows how great the year 2009 was for this girl. Also, I've never been one for resolutions; I'm just ready to dive right into whatever 2010 has in store for me! And more importantly, what I have in store for it.

For now I wanted to check in and say that the past four days have been unbelievably fun, what with Curbside-r and lovely bestie Christy in town!! She's been visiting from Austin, Texas and it's so fun to have her back for a few days! We've been carousing with the other good people here in New York (including other superfun visitors like Jesse's friend Colin and Sean's friend Jess!), and rang in the new year with board games and Rock Band. I also decided to forgo any sequins or glitter and wear the loudest pants I owned in the 2000s:

(photo courtesy of the husband, watching my surely spectacular performance on Rock Band vox)

As you can see, bright, tight pants are probably a thing that I should keep to my past. I would share more pictures, but there was no time for photos with all the fun going on.

It's been unbelievably cold in New York, but that hasn't prevented us from going out to a couple of bowling alleys, shopping, and getting manicures (I'm sporting a dark gray, I love it). We've also spent plenty of time indoors with (you guessed it!) Rock Band, but also watching movies like I Love You Man500 Days of Summer (Christy obvs needed a recap on my Top Films of 2009) and two films I knew she had to see, given her love of traveling and mysterious strangers - Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. And then she gave me a tour of YouTube's finest Taylor Kitsch interviews. Tonight is her last night and I'm going to be ultra-bummed to say bye. Luckily, a trip to Austin seems to be in the cards this year...

Also, I'd just like to say that Jesse and I were the final two teams in our Fantasy Football League and went head to head this past weekend in the "Superbowl." And Jesse won. I came in second, which I am A-OK with mainly because my main fb-squeeze Chris Johnson broke 2,000 rushing yards this weekend and then had a (I quote) "CJ2K" party to celebrate. How I wish I could have been there! However, I was most likely drumming my wrists out to "Sunday Morning."

Question 15-20 (Travel Edition)

Okay, the questions I'm getting are awesome - for real. I get excited when I see one pop up in my inbox! I'm still making my way through the questions, trying to group them as best I can. Keep tuning in for more posts - I'll try to finish them out by the end of the weekend! The questions have really inspired me - letting me know that people actually read this little corner of the internet and it reignited my fervor for blogging!

So, now, I take on questions regarding places, locations and travels! This is fitting as I am in the midst of planning perhaps the biggest trip of my life so far for next year - details to come as they're all firmed up!

What should I check out in Williamsburg?

I don't hang out in Williamsburg regularly, but there are some fun things I like to do there, such as - see shows at the Music Hall of Williamsburg (I've seen OkGo and Against Me! there), eat at delicious places like Wild Ginger or Sea, have crazy late night times at a bar called The Levee (board games + beer = Jesse's favourite bar), drinking at the Brooklyn Brewery, and my new favourite place: Brooklyn Bowl. Oddly enough, this alley-slash-restaurant-slash-venue has the best margaritas I've had in New York. No lie!

What do you think of Manhattan, in general, as the metropolitan human being you are?

Like every city, there's something to love and something to hate. For now, I focus on the love: you're never bored here. If you say you are, it's because you've decided to stay indoors. There's a million things going on in this city every night. Also, I love love love that there's always something new opening or an undiscovered secret restaurant or bar. The food is amazing; there are so many great places to eat. And I would eat out more often if I could afford it!

Where is your favorite place that you have traveled to?

Definitely Panama. You can't beat seing your family and staying in the tropics where $200 will usually last you a month. My favourite place was a secluded beach where my family, Jesse, and I rented cabanas for $10/night. We stayed outside all day, swam in the warm but refreshing Pacific Ocean, bodysurfed, grilled, made a fire, watched the sun set, watched the moon rise, watched the tide go low...at least half a mile out, where we walked with the brightest full moon I've ever seen as our guide. It was, quite simply, our own little paradise for the time. I think about those days often.

Other notes, now that I'm on it:

In the United States, the three cities I've visited when Jesse was on tour and really love - Portland, San Diego, and Austin! I'm planning a trip to Austin in 2010, too.

City I was suprised to not like: San Francisco.

City I was surprised to like: Detroit.

If I were coming to New York for a long weekend...say Thursday-Mondayish...with C, what are some of the top things we need to see/do, eat, watch, etc??

Secret: I am the worst tourist. I have yet to visit the Statue of Liberty. I've seen it...once...from a moving car. When people come visit, I try to show them the nightlife and the people - I'm not exactly one for bus tours. Here's what I would do: 1) See a show - any kind of show - there's always one going on! - whether it be an indie band at a dive bar, Ricky Gervais at Carnegie Hall, a broadway play (you know Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig are doing that, right?) or an independent film at the Angelika Theater. The venues, to me, are part of the show, and are part of the New York experience. 2) Hit up a museum - right now there's a Tim Burton retrospective at the MoMA and I desperately want to go sometime soon (it runs through April I believe). 3) Eat, eat, eat. DON'T GO TO A CHAIN IN NEW YORK! Though we all enjoy a Chipotle here or there, if you're coming to New York, the food is part of the experience, and the city has LOTS of choices. 4) Walk around a lot - everywhere. New York streets are a grid; it's nearly impossible to get lost. You'll find so many interesting stores, see a lot of people, and if you look up, you'll see some neat architecture. (Neat? Hahaha)

That's all I've got for right now. I wouldn't be the best at writing a straight-up travel guide. My favourite thing about being somewhere else with another person is experiencing it together. I'm not one to experience a city with a checklist of must-see places: let's get there and see what happens.

Where did you originate from, and if it wasn't New York how did you end up there?

I was born in Panama City, Panama. My father is from New Hampshire and he met my mother in Panama, where she grew up. My father was military, so I grew up moving around, oh, every two years. It was more fun than it sounds like and I wouldn't give it up for anything: I don't have a hometown and I don't care! It's easy for me to make myself home wherever I go; that's what I learned to do. So for now: New York is home. After going to college in Boston, I spent a year in Rhode Island saving up to move to New York where my best friend Kelly was already living. I've been in love with New York since some trips growing up; I also spent my sophomore year of high school's spring break traveling from Kentucky to see Kevin Spacey in the broadway run of The Iceman Cometh. That trip pretty much solidfied the fact that I someday HAD to live in this city. And so, when the time was right, I did it.

What inspired you to move to New York? Did it start out just you and Erica or did all of your friends move at the same time?

I've been itching to move to New York since high school. I'd been inspired by the many trips I'd taken there; I knew I was attracted to cities more than suburbia and I also thought that because of all my moving around growing up that I would need to live somewhere that didn't bore me, somewhere that I wouldn't want to move away from after a year. Like I said, New York is not boring. I applied to a college in New York, but decided I liked Boston University's campus better. However, I spent most of my college Spring Breaks in New York with Kelly and Amber. (We did stuff like wait outside of SNL and meet Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey, measure the width of our tiny hotel room which was the length of my arm span, and eat the $1 hot dogs for every meal because we were poor, poor college students.) My friends and I had always planned to all live in New York at some point; Kelly, Christy, and Jiscilla were already living here. (Though Curbside's first gathering was in Rhode Island!) Erica was living in Rhode Island at the same time as me, and we had both separate plans to move to NY at some point, but as our friendship grew, our plans converged and we did it together!

Got any more questions?!

What are your plans for the weekend? Tonight I'm seeing DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL acoustic at Highline Ballroom! I am ultra-emo excited.

Even now I can feel your hand.

As I related in the last point, I saw the movie In the Cut, as recommended to me by Amber, and was surprised to find how much I loved it. I'm also obsessed with this particular tumblr that summarizes or features movies in four frames. Above is my hand at "framing" Jane Campion's 2003 movie. I instantly thought of framing the film because of how interesting Campion's shots were throughout. Has anybody seen it? What did you think? I remember people absolutely hating it when it came out; I can't believe I hadn't seen it until now.

The viewing also led to a little shake-up in my Top Five. Mark Ruffalo has always been near the top, but was never included. Well, he has taken down Lee Pace. Pace, as you may remember, was the lovable main character on Pushing Daisies, but since that has been cancelled, my love, too, has waned in his absence. Ruffalo is IN. Also, weird fact that I learned while watching the behind-the-scenes featurette on In the Cut - Ruffalo hadn't worked in ten months when approached my Campion, as he had just gotten over brain surgery from having a brain tumor that paralyzed half of his face. He doubted whether he would even return to acting.

In other news, the new Dashboard Confessional album is out today and I've been listening to it for the past week completely enamored with both the full-band and acoustic versions of the songs. Before listening, I wondered why he would even put out two versions of the same songs, and once I listened to the electric songs it became clear: Carrabba, you are using some electronic effects! Gotta get those acoustic songs out there too for the ol' die-hards...like my friend Rick, who has always proclaimed Dashboard is infinitely better unplugged. Rick and I plan on discussing the album(s) this week, and I'll let you know how that debate goes. For now, you can pick up the album for $6.99 today via Shockhound and if you want to know my two favourite songs at the moment they are "Get Me Right" and "Even Now."

Also, you know that movie Say Anything? It was released TWENTY years ago. Can you believe that?Lloyd Dobler holds the title as my first swoon ever. Way over any other 80s teen character, Lloyd was my silver-screen lobster - and I think every girl who's seen it. Some of the ladies came over on Saturday night for an anniversarial viewing, in which we talked about when we had first seen it, and how in ways it ruined our ideas of love - Lloyd Dobler does not exist (these sentiments were half-joking). Our own Jiscilla had never seen the film - I KNOW. We laughed as she commented during the viewing: "Aw, her dad is so nice. He takes care of her." and "She's not going to give him that pen, right? HA. That would be awful." I actually loved seeing someone react to the movie without ever having seen it! We all revelled in Diane Court, Joe lies/When he cries, Stoltz, keymaster, "If you were Diane Court would you fall for Lloyd Dobler?", kickboxing is the sport of the future, how does that "happen", I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen, IN YOUR EYES THE LIGHT THE HEAT, etc., etc., etc.

I think you know I could go on about this seminal film of my adolesence - couldn't you? Is there anyone who doesn't like this movie? (And not in an award-worthy way or had to be relevant to your childhood way - just, simply, like or do not like...and why?) I think a negative opinion of Say Anything would really surprise me! Like, surprise me in a way completely different than when people say they hate The Beatles or The Godfather. How can you hate on Lloyd? Anybody want to prove me wrong?

I won't be dancing alone.

It's somewhat embarassing to say, but whenever Jesse leaves, it starts a countdown for the moment he is to return. This morning we woke up together and as I got ready for work, he packed for Minneapolis and then he walked me out to the street and we kissed and said goodbye for now. On the way to work I thought of when I'd next see him, in two weeks time, and realized that that precise day and those surrrounding it held a lot to look forward to.

In two weeks time, my best friend Amber will arrive in New York. She's moving here from Michigan, and that day I've been anticipating for weeks now (not to mention the years it was always to be part of her plan). We've been friends since middle school, as she also grew up in the military, and we reunited in our senior year of high school to become best friends. After that, we've seen each other as often as possible, along with Kelly whom we also went to high school with, and now she'll be HERE! Within reach at all times! A text away from a meet-up! How exciting.

In two weeks time, I will be turning twenty-six. Le two six. I'll be over my first twenty-five years of life, and diving headfirst into the next. Nothing much will truly change, I'm sure.

And yes, in two weeks time, Jesse will return for my birthday. His tour schedule has actually never allowed him to be with me on my birthday, so there is something different about this year, I suppose. Plus, we're married now. I asked for no gifts this year, but he has something up his sleeve apparently. Perhaps not a gift in the traditional sense, but he has asked me to block some time for him. If my schedule will allow...

So what to do for two weeks of anticipation? Well, I always have and cherish my Curbside girls, this city of New York in autumn, and the fifty-two books I plan on finishing this year. Add to this my continual attempt at organizing my life post-wedding, Erica inducting me into her Fantasy Football League, the new season of several television shows, and Rick so kindly gifting me and Jesse a Netflix subscription - well, I guess I'll be busy.

And you? What are you looking forward to in the rest of September?

We will keep it going strong.

Me, Jiscilla, Kelly, Erica, and Christy.

I know how annoying it must be when I talk about my girlfriends every five seconds and how much more awesome they are than yours, but it's the straight truth.

I'm just kidding - kinda.

The Curbside Gang formed in 2006, on a random curb in Rhode Island, consuming Rita's Italian Ice. Some of us knew each other better than others, but that would all change starting right then. Within a year we were all living in New York. Once here, the The Curbside Daily began - a running dialogue between the five of us via Gmail (we accept no other email form) in which we discuss EVERYTHING. This daily email has been going on for TWO YEARS now. We make plans, we talk about current events, we gossip, we share everything that's going on with us, we talk about our futures, we ask questions, we give advice, we "pretty much" divulge our secrets, we go back and forth on TLC specials about women who didn't know they were pregnant, etc., etc., etc. Seriously, at any point during the day, we can turn to each other.

Christy and Jiscilla have since moved to Texas and Connecticut respectively, but the Daily continues. And though email is viewed by some as a deterioration of meaningful communication - I assure you our emails mean the world to each of us and we appreciate a way in which we're all connected, because even when we were living in the same city, we all have different schedules and careers and obligations. The Daily keep us together and I couldn't be more thankful to have the words of those four intelligent and amazing girls in my inbox every day, all day (and night). This is, I think you can see, partly a thank you to them.

And yes, Kelly there is holding up a necklace that says "Curbside." That's how we roll.

I'm checkin' it out, that's right !

Hey-oh! My review of the Tegan & Sara is show is up now at Almack's Dance Hall! CHECK IT OUT!!!

In other news, last night's Trainwreck Prom was way better than my actual prom (omg stab me if I ever have to re-live that). So many people were there, including the elusive Katie Brown and all members of Curbside. I haven't seen Justin and Tyler in forever, and it was so fun because they got all excited to congratulate me and see my engagement ring. My friends rule. Pictures via Jiscilla, Meik, and NickyDigital forthcoming!

And, oh, the happy news of yesterday: I'm seeing Jesse at the end of May. Sixteen days! He's all "in Canada" right now, so it's been tougher than usual to talk, which obvs makes me miss him more, so I'm really really really really excited to see him. Plus, errebody on tour and Joyce, etc., etc., etc. Oh, and I'll get to celebrate his birthday.

Tonight my plans include finally RELAXING on the couch. So stoked.

EDIT! Here are a few of Meik's pictures :

Now is the time.

The weekend lowdown -

Friday: Jet to Chinatown for edamame, sake & Little Women. I'm not kidding. Curbside knows how to enjoy their Friday nights - a little Christian Bale lovin' and Kiki Dunst haterin' (mostly from The Dagger; I like Kirsten). STOLTZ! Also, Decker knowing every freeze frame of the movie. I know every curve of Christian's lips.

Saturday: Ugh, Macy's. Woo, Juno! Seriously might top my year-end movie list (which I should start working on...). Seeing it with The Dagger and Kells, we couldn't believe two lines that occured within seconds of each other "Honest to Blog?!" and "Are you sure it's not a food baby??" - because those hit close to home. Very close to home. Perfectly cast and wonderfully not cheesy. Cera = Kelly's boyfs.

Erica and I made ghetto mimosas and sat on the couch eating chocolate and rocking out to jams ("I get so emotional, baby!") and then we decided we should probably actually do something when we realized it was only 8pm. So we went to a bar around the corner with Jeff. He built our walls. Erica has some sort of club with him - whatever, I'm jealz. Anyway, we played with the juke box, I got Johnny Cash, Erica got some Salt n Pepa, Jeff got The Pixies (I was in such a good mood, I didn't call out him saying Kim Gordon in ref to the Pixies when it's obvs Kim Deal, bro). Then I went home for snuggle phone talks from Utah, while the other two went traipsing around BK for stray kittens all night (OR SO THEY SAY).

Sunday: cleaned in preparation for forthcoming holiday party. Since there was no Patriots game on (LAME JETS) we sat on the couch and watched four hours of the SCI-FI channel's Tinman and two hours of Lauren Conrad's life recorded for television. Brain cells = depleted.

Discussed: kittens with backpacks. Discussed: would you sit on Shia at a Walgreens? Discussed: Keanu is probably depressed right now, perhaps still in the future. Discussed: Erica's plans to murder me via time machine and a cold. Discussed: best thing that happened to me in 2007 - LOLcats or Jesse?

DO WANT!

Curbside dins. Another epic classic.

Quotables:

"Can I make out with someone I don't hate???"

"Hot topic!" (sung to the "Hot Pocket" jingle)

"What if he walks by, stops at the window and goes, 'ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ME? ...are you talking about ME?"

The Ray v. Ray Debacle -
"Okay, I saw Ray the other day--"
"Wait. I'm confused. Your Ray or my Ray?"
"My Ray...so, I saw him the other day..."
"Wait, your Ray or my Ray?"
"MY RAY!!"
"You saw him the other day?"
"Yes."
"Your Ray?"
[At this point, I'm crying in my laughter.]
"MY RAY. I SAW HIM YESTERDAY!!"
"But I thought you saw my Ray with his family on the sidewalk the other day?"
"I DID! BUT YESTERDAY I SAW MY RAY! DIFFERENT RAY!"
"Okay, I get it now."

"AUGUST 17th!!!"
"Is her birthday..."
"REALLY?! How did I not know that?! I was going to say it's when High School Musical 2 comes out!!"

[To the waiter]
"Now, this 'fakin' - is it the same as the bacon I had the other morning for breakfast?"
Waiter: "Uhh..."

"Rob...you know...he doesn't have a hand...Handless Rob!!"

"Barftime!"

"I think we lost Jiscilla."

"Who wants to have a boob hanging out while all this goes down?"
One of us raises her hand and shrugs.

"Do not want. Do not want. DO WANT!!!"

Also: Curbside Speed Dating. It's happening. And I'm the host/facilitator.

These four girls.

Dinner @ Vinyl.

They help relieve the stress; a respite from the anxieties. Where I can vent.

Curbside makes my life. An example why?

A conversation between the five of us tonight:

"Isn't he a legit midget?"
"You have to be 4'11"."
"He's not a midget. But. Short dudes are assholes."
"So...that makes him an illegal midget?"
"So true."
"Fact. -------: asshole. -------: asshole."
"Napoleon complex!"
"Like...the movie...Napoleon Dynamite?"
"Like the French emperor..."
"When you said movie my mind thought you were talking about Beethoven haha."
"With the DOG?!"
"With Charles Groban!"
"With Charles GroDIN, thank you!"

...then some pond slut got in the way of us getting into the pet store in time to ogle cute animals.

Revelations.

My cynical, so-not-me "anti" attitude is over. For good.

My parents have been together 25 years today. Holy-slash-wholly amazing.

I love mango fake chicken.

My girlfriends are my true loves. They make even the best times five million times better.

The train & public modes of foodz despise Jesse.

My eyes turned green recently. They tend to do so occasionally...I think they'll stay like this awhile.

Erin & Dirge & BEN & Sabrina visits - stoked!

Day off tomorrow! Sleeeeepz! You know, after I go out tonight.
