He was a good man and now he's gone.

I've decided to do as my friend Liz does on Fridays, and provide a Friday Playlist. I was walking into work this morning and a series of extremely walkable music came on. You know what I mean? Like, The Killers "All These Things That I've Done" is the quintessential walking song to me, mainly because of its march-like drum beat. Not all of these have that kind of drum beat, but they have the face-up, leg-moving, maybe-you'll-smile flow. As if you've got a Sorkin/Schlamme camera set-up in front of you on a cart. (Okay, that was a mighty dorky reference - kudos if you get it.) I've rounded out the rest of the songs at work - it's Friday! Also, today's my two year anniversary of working in this place. Not too shabby!

Friday Playlist

M. Ward - Requiem (I'm kind of obssessed with this song at the moment)
Brandi Carlisle - The Story
Bright Eyes - Road to Joy
Coconut Records - West Coast
Dandy Warhols - We Used to Be Friends
The Format - Inches and Failing
Fiona Apple - Extraordinary Machine
Foo Fighters - Hey, Johnny Park!
No Doubt - Excuse Me Mr.
The Gaslight Anthem - Meet Me By the River's Edge
Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light
Ray Lamontagne - You Are the Best Thing

What are you listening to today? Anything I should be looking into? Besides Lily Allen & M. Ward's new albums, I haven't gotten into anything new. And you know I'm always on the lookout.

Finally - it's the WEEKEND!

And since Jesse left yesterday for the Midwest, I was writing him an e-mail this morning before work (during my Cheerios!) and little Keanu wanted to say hi, too. We miss him!

  1. i think you should listen to 'Hot Summer Night' by David Tavare (feat. 2 Eivissa)'s an AWESOME song, and i like turning it up, opening the front door and dancing on the porch barefoot and in a sundress. of course it helps that it's practically summer in texas already. :)

  2. some of the stuff that's come up on my shuffle today:

    metric - calculation theme
    the velvet teen - gyzmkid
    mew - forever and ever
say anything - all my friends
mae - mistakes we knew we were making
jimmy eat world - lucky denver mint

but now i think i'm gonna listen to excuse me mr.

p.s. you know that comedian aziz ansari? apparently he's a fnl fan, he's been tweeting about it all day.

  3. tUne-Yards! Just discovered her about a week ago and haven't stopped listening... I list some of my fav songs on my blog... but they are all, except one, worth listening to at least once.

  4. i'm always afraid when i walk to music that i will get a little dancey and look like a weirdo

  5. Hugely into the new Neko Case and new Say Hi albums over here... I imagine you'd like Neko... I'll get it over to you when I get home.

  6. I'm still on Dragonette!! :)

  7. you should have come to gaslight light last night! real good!

  8. I agree with Sean that Gaslight was amazing (even though I didn't see him there last night) and unlike M. Ward, their music won't put you to sleep.

You definitely pick up their first disc "Sink Or Swim," it's one of my favorites. But then again, what do I know? I'm just a professional rock critic.

  9. seeing all the fun you have with your macbook, makes me want to get one. i am not even lying. you may convince me.

  10. I made a playlist last week of beautiful songs in waltz time (e.g. The Format - I'm Actual, Iron & Wine - Flightless Bird, American Mouth). It's pretty sweet, I love it.

  11. Also it looks like there are quite a few songs in your Friday playlist that wouldn't be there if you didn't know me... just saying

  12. I had that spare gaslight ticket ready and waiting.

  13. Friday playlist - love it!

I am going to see Gaslight on Saturday - from the looks of these comments, it should be a great show!!
