Date night.

My Panama update is imminent; lo prometo. I'm waiting to get all of Jesse's photos to go along with my summary so it's more complete.

In other news, tonight is Jesse's last night in New York. He leaves tomorrow for tour around the globe. So we had a little date - we met up after work for dinner and a movie. Great Pan-Asian cuisine and an Oscar-nominated animated film, Persepolis. The film is quite serious in subject matter; it's about an Iranian girl growing up through the tumult of the Islamic Revolution. The animation is spectacular, I cried a lot, and I find it difficult to compare such a film to its fellow nominees, Ratatouille and Surf's Up. We'll see what happens Oscar night.

And so we're back at the apartment and I'm enjoying my new computer. SO MUCH. I'm trying not to think of tomorrow and goodbyes. The last month that he's been home has been incredible. I used to worry that he'd be sick of spending so much time with me when he's home or when we travel together, but the last eleven months has proven that there's little chance of us tiring of the other. My apologies to all of your stomachs and throats that must be tired of barfing when reading this blog.

I have a new computer.

And it's a MacBook PRO. Yes. Finally.

Baby, you're gonna miss that plane...

I just rewatched two of my favorite movies: Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. I'd seen them both years ago, and loved them then, but last year I bought them both on dvd because of a strange feeling I needed to rewatch them, and I needed Jesse to watch them. Don't ask me why; I wouldn't know. After another viewing, they're even more amazing. I didn't know quite what to attribute this to, but I'm trying to sort it out in my brain. Perhaps this is why I turned to writing it out.

The first film revolves around two strangers who spend a few hours in Vienna together based on an immediate attraction. The second one is about them nine years later. Most of the films are just conversations between these two. I always liked this aspect - it seemed intimate. I had watched these movies in awe of the bond of these two characters. It felt real - but movie real; I never connected to it personally...

But now, it's different. This past year I experienced a paradigm shift in many aspects of my life, my thinking, my opinion of relationships, etc. I had changed, and so had my perspective on these films. They attempt to illustrate a simple, contemporary and real aspect on love at first sight, or more simply, just love.

Maybe what I'm trying to explain (and not doing so eloquently, my apologies) is that now I understand the films more completely. Back in 2000, I eagerly anticipated No Doubt's Return of Saturn, but was sorely disappointed by the album. However, two years later, after experiencing my first serious relationship, I listened again and related to it like no other; I'd easily call it one of my top five albums of all time. In the span of those two years, I'd been able to gain a new outlook on relationships in general, and could attest to the relationship-centric lyrics Gwen Stefani had confessionally written.

Film is obviously a different type of media, and one that (I don't think) should be taken on a personal level as much as music. I watch films mainly to escape into another world and its characters, not to relate. However, suddenly I relate to the characters of Celine and Jesse (coincidence, I know) and I can't help but think it's because, here I am, completely and totally in love in the truest sense of the word I've ever known.

And I think the reason I needed to see the films again is because their first interactions were somewhat reminiscent of when Jesse and I first started hanging out. I remember having these conversations with him that were probably about everything and nothing at all, but our connection was obvious and we fell into each other quite easily and quickly. I'm not saying that we are like the characters at all, but I can relate to whatever their connection can be defined as.

Okay, that's all I'll say about that. I know you're probably dozing off. I don't think I meant to share this much on the internets, but...I'll leave it unedited for posterity's sake.

[Sidenote: An update on Panama is on its way. I'm getting a new computer tonight (!!!) so, I'll be all savvy at home to update you properly...if you even care.]

I'm in the customs line at the Miami airport. And...our flight was delayed so we don't get home til tomorrow. Oh well, one more night in hot weather...back home it's 20? 23 degrees? Ha. A preview of my update to come...take a look at that beach. Las Lajas, Panama. Do...still...want.

Panama! Panamah-ah!

We're heading to Panama! Visit my mom's whole side of the fam. I'm stoked! Currently sitting in the Miami airport waiting for our connection. Got up at three thirty am...oof.

But we're already in sunny weather!

My moms got a chic haircut; Uncle Dave is experiencing his first time out of the country; my dad is keeping us all in check; and Jesse wasn't to blame for the poop smells in our first flight! (Diapers.)

Internets will probably be lacking. I shall update on my travels whence I return. (Whence? Really?)

Cloverfield - no spoilers here.

It's three am. Just got back from Cloverfield. Woot. Intense. Rocked my

people have seen it. But you should see it. And soon.

I will say that Erica, Rachel, Jesse and I were scared to death by a
loud, loud noise on the subway platform on the way home though...

My throat is killing me today, thanks.

I had this whole post about seeing Atonement last night after being surprised it won the Golden Globe for Best Dramatic Film. Instead, I will sum it up as: gorgeous but OBVIOUS. Incredibly typical, and I'm mystified as to why it won over There Will Be Blood, Eastern Promises, No Country for Old Men, American Gangster, and The Great Debaters. I haven't seen the last two (the Denzel movies, weird), but the others are at least ten times better than that recycled British fare. I am done.

The Indian dinner Jesse and I had before the movie, however, was quite delicious and filling. Honestly, a year ago, I hated Indian food. I'm coming around to it now. Wonder why.

Heads will roll.

Jiscilla's got a new camera, and I'm into it because my tatters look present!

Dude, everybody was stoked on them.

Though perhaps not Jesse, as my nemesis deflected attention by bringing up the iPhone.
Works every time.

Jesse's this funny, really?
So funny that it looks like an alien's going to bust out of my throat?
REALLY?

PS Please note Jesse's same exact look of happiness whether holding his iPhone or me. It's an epidemic.

SPECIAL EDITION!

No, Erica's not in this picture, but her DESIGNS are! That's Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, holding up some not-yet-released Clandestine Industries necklaces that my lovely roommate designed for his company. She's pretty awesome at designing stuff, and convincing me to like things associated with Wentz.

Geeks unite.

All of my comic-book-loving friends have come out of the woodwork due to this post. I needn't wait for cashish, I have friends! Rick's sending me some stuff in the mail (apparently series' I don't even know about, but should) and Adam's bringing issues over as well. I will be guided by experts, it seems. I'm STOKED.

However, nobody's into Wonder Woman. I may have to investigate this one myself...

In case you didn't know, he makes me the happiest person ever.

Moving on.

Last night we had our football friends over for the PATRIOTS v JAGUARS game. Epic. Pats won - obviously.

Then we decided to go out in Brooklyn, kind of on a whim, but all of our friends came out of the woodwork at last minute and were totally into our plans. I was stoked to see so many people ready to party and dance. I love my friends. They make my life.

We danced until 4 am and then Dagger slapped my face on the subway platform - that's all I will say about that. Except! Jesse attempted to defend my "honor." HA.

Today we got up late and watched LOST in Blu-Ray, 3:10 to Yuma in Blu-Ray and then settled for some awesome playoff games and greasy food. Tonight = ROCK OF LOVE 2!

What we do.

Heading to Royal Oak last night.

After the Pats won again! And for a late late night of dance partying. You know how we do.

Last night on the dancefloor...

Two people kept making out, so I made it my duty to keep taking pictures of them. They neither noticed nor stopped.

More to come re: last night.

7 AM: Alarm goes off. Snooze. Notice throat has decided to shrink overnight. Will worry about when fully awake. Spoon.

715 AM: Alarm goes off. Fuck. Feel gross.

720 AM: Hacking lungs up in bathroom. Yum.

730 AM: Feel weak, can hardly get my clothes together for work. "Why don't you call in sick and I'll take care of you all day?" -Can't; morning meeting downtown I can't miss. Sigh-(cough!)-sigh.

755 AM: Dressed. Don't have to be to work until 930. Can has more cuddles?

830 AM: Out the door, wrapped up good, medicine in hand to take with first bite of food I can lay my hand on.

910 AM: Exit 42nd Street subway, look up, JAMBA JUICE! Perf.

913 AM: Order a Coldbuster with Daily Vitamin boost.

914 AM: Reach into purse, feel around: no wallet. Recall leaving on coffee table last night after ordering Chinese food.

918 AM: Eye street vendor's fruit stand; weigh consequences of getting caught stealing an apple.

920 AM: Decide against criminal act. Head to meeting.

1040 AM: Borrow 40 cents from coworker for pop tarts out of vending machine. Proceed to break nail.

11 AM: Dayquil taken; feeling better, still slightly weak.

1217 PM: Decide to use my lunch break sans lunch (wahhhh wallet) to update my blog.

Somewhere to rest my head.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

So I had to break the window.

Last night Jesse and I met up with Jonah and his friend Jenny to see There Will Be Blood. It was: Extraordinary. Incredible. Mesmerizing. From Daniel Day-Lewis' terrifyingly great performance (as always) to PT Anderson's elegant pacing to Jonny Greenwood's soundtrack...I was blown away. Completely captivated. I won't say more; words won't do it justice.

Except (ha), that even though I was exhausted (from that whole bowling 'til two am/waking up at seven am for work deal of the previous night), when the movie let out three hours later, I couldn't shake its intensity and decided it would be a good tension-releaser to walk a few blocks in the lovely night to meet up with Adam and Sean. Walking in our apartment around three am, I didn't think I'd be able to keep my eyes open another second. But after crawling into bed, we spent another half hour or so talking about There Will Be Blood, PT Anderson, single-artist soundtracks, Daniel Day-Lewis' hands, etc etc etc...it's not a forgettable film.

Okay, random statements:

Jesse made me dinner. It was delicious! A+, boyfs, A+.

I don't think I've shared this on my blog yet, but Becca has informed us all that the world is ending on December 21, 2012. I shouldn't have been surprised to see an article in my Google Reader about it.

Also, if you're ever interested in my favorite articles from my Google Reader, I share things on my feed right HERE (which is also on the sidebar of this blog). I love the internets.

Places I visited in 2007 I'd never been to before: Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, St. Louis, San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara. We all know who's responsible for this.

Last night I also saw a preview for the newest George Clooney starring/directed movie, Leatherheads. I'm interested.

If I had enough money, I'd want to get into comic books. Spiderman (the writers rebooted with a Peter Parker-makes-a-deal-with-the-devil storyline - interested!), X-Men (this, I've always loved), and Wonderwoman (first female head writer ever, or something like that - see, this is why I need to get into them). Could I BE more of a geek? Apparently, with enough money, yes!

Things I am saving up for slash why I can't quite have that comic book obsession yet: a new computer, apartment furnishings, new profesh work clothes, plane tickets to see the boyfs on tour, etc. Yes...it's my DO WANT list.

And finally, I am still really effin' tired.

Things that are hilarious about this video:

1. Everybody dancing and singing to "Party in Your Bedroom" right after midnight.

2. Aw there's Jesse and Jessica!

3. Aw they're gonna kiss...

4. Oh wait, no, they've decided to suck each other's faces.

5. And there's Jesse kissing Nick.

Letting Go.

Dear Jessica,

This letter was meant to get to you by December 31, 2007. However, I was riding the waves and forgot to put it in your special box. I mean, our special mailbox. Anyway, in case you were wondering, the ocean is still pretty sweet in the future.

You will have a good 2008. Don't worry. I KNOW. You're still alive. I can't tell you about 2012 yet, though.

Give my best to Erica. Tell her me in Blu Ray is phenomenal. I KNOW.

Regards,

Keanu

Post-script: In 2008, I starred in a movie called "The Day the Earth Stood Still," which is supposedly a remake, but dude, but I didn't know then. Just found that out today. You should see it. Thanks.

Walking into work...

And I'm crossing 5th Ave when I look up and see a white BULL parked in front of CBS. O rly?

Then there was a mechanical bull and a bunch of cowboys freezing their butts off in their leather coats and cowboy hats.

What?

Chase this light with me.

Our view, December 31 2007

I'm trying to slow down. The last two weeks of 2007 were hectic.

As soon as Jesse got back from tour, it was time for Christmas. His dad flew in from California and we headed to the cold and snow-laden hills of Worcester to my family's house. I was happy to be with family and everybody was in good spirits. We watched movies, baked cookies, played cards, and embibed heartily.

On Christmas morning I was proud that my gifts went over so well; it was my first Christmas on salary and with the money to actually buy good stuffs for my loved ones. I got my parents broadway show tickets and a hotel room in NYC for the weekend of their 26th anniversary in March. They were STOKED! The price was steep, but I pretty much owe them for all that I am and all that I've achieved, plus, ya know, "life," so it's well-deserved. I got Jesse some little gifts and then my big gift was a trio of nice button-up shirts that I had tailored to his size (he can't wear them otherwise). He looks fantastic in them.

Whenever he's back from tour, he always brings a bevy of little gifts for me. This time was no different, and for Christmas he also got me the entire series of Friends on DVD (a staple of my adolesence), and a lovely piece of art in two frames. And yet, it was his mere presence during the holidays that I treasured the most.

And back to New York! I had to return to work the day after Christmas (not fun) and the rest of the week flew by. The Pats/Giants game on Saturday was AMAZING - spent at our apartment with Team Geah, some of our Pats friends, and - oh YEAH, a freakin' 52 inch LCD/HD tv with surround sound, courtesy of my guy. Changes lives. Just saying.

Jesse and I headed back to Worcester for a day to pick up my new Queen size bed. All my life, I've slept in a twin bed. Totally serious. Even the last ten months...if you know what I mean. We're SERIOUS cuddlers. [And still are with all that space...BARF! BARF! BARF!] On the way home we veered off 95 to IKEA and got some furniture! Yes, it was my first time ever in an IKEA. But nows I has a bedside table and a giant mirror for my room (something I've always wanted). And our living room has dvd shelves (much needed for my & Erica's devestating collection) and a coffee table.

And then, oh yeah, it was December 31st and it was time for Jiscilla-Angela-Evange-JTJ-Girl Jesse's Roaring Twenties New Year's Eve party! It was a ridiculous night of fun. Jesse got a penthouse room in Manhattan for us and invited a few of our friends over to get into costume together and share some pre-party bubbly. Dressed to the nines, we headed over and the party RULED. Except for those who showed up sans-costume (UGH), it was fun to drink, take pics, and ring in the two-thousand GREAT with some of my favorite people on the planet. I was so happy to have Jesse to kiss at midnight, as meeting him this year was probably the most life-changing thing to happen to me in 2007. Erica DJ'd in the New Year with the first song of '08: "Party in Your Bedroom" by the Consequence. OF COURSE! Also, after Jesse and I retired for the evening, apparently Curbside had some epic "sharing"...which prompts Christy to declare 2008, two-thousand MATE. Brilliant.

The first day of the year passed wonderfully, lazily and sans-hangover.

And so, here's the conclusion. (You're so glad, I know.) Jesse > LOLcats. Curbside = Sharing for Points in 2008 (I contribute only 1 point this year, sorry). Also, one last shout-out to the Dagger for introducing me to Google Reader in 2007. Second most life-changing moment.

That is all.
