My Top Artists of the Week (Nov 24 - Nov 30)

(via my last.fm)

I upped the anty on music-listening last week (given that I've been doing far more reading than listening lately) because Jesse and I went on a road trip. And for road trips you must have music. That's a universal truth, right? However, since Jesse was doing the driving, I mainly let him listen to his music, except for one day. Where I got to play some old favourites out of nostalgia.

I'm still on an All-American Rejects high. And in keeping with that post's theme, I'm going to share another music-related memory - NOT about the Rejects. But about road trips and music.

In August 2005, Erica, myself, and a few others traveled from Rhode Island to her childhood home in Maine for Lobster Fest. I had recently bought Missy Elliot's The Cookbook, and loved it. But, again, I was not driving on the way up! There were four girls in the car, and all the windows were down. We sported our sunglasses and enjoyed the scenic ride up the northeast coast. At one point, in the middle of some slow-going traffic, Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" came on the radio and we immediately turned it up and started singing our lungs out. During our in-car karaoke, we passed by a bridge with three or four shirtless (& healthy-looking) young men who were suddenly jumping on the railing and then into the river below, where other swimmers were bathing on that hot summer day. We all hooted, hollered, and kept screaming Kelly Clarkson, while onlookers smiled and laughed at us. Then traffic picked up and the song ended and we were all left smiling.

Whenever I hear that song, I think of that four-minute moment. I know a lot of people associate "Since U Been Gone" with break-up vengeance and stuff, and that's cool. Do it! It's a wonderfully cathartic song if you just dumped a dirtbag. However, that wasn't the case for any of us girls at that time; we just dug the fact that sometimes even a radio-friendly pop song can bring out the silly in us. And for all the deep, meaningful and serious songs I have appreciation for, I still respect the power of any song, no matter pop or indie or emo, to elicit a response or assist in creating a treasured memory. Now I'm bordering on cliche, so I'll stop.

The whole caravan that weekend. (I'm in the middle in blue!)

Okay, I absolutely LOVE hearing stories like this from other people - stories of ONE song that you associate with one moment or a person or something. In my last post, I was intrigued by all the albums associated with periods of time...so, what about that one song? What memory does it drudge up (for better or for worse)? Even if you never comment, leave one! Anonymously if need be! I'd love to know.

Ooh - I wanna dance with somebody!

GET STOKED!

Tonight, Trainwreck Tuesday is hosting it's WINTER FORMAL! Just like the Prom in the Spring, I'm excited to play dress up. And since I was home for the weekend, I dug through my old dresses and grabbed a formal dress I wore in college - yes, it has sequins, is ultra-bright, and I will probably be overdressed. So, if you're around you should definitely come by for Erica & Rob's awesome tune-age, a rockin' photobooth, and to point and stare at that totally nerdy girl in the blinding turqoise dress (me!).

Oh, and Brendan Urie from Panic! at the Disco (remember when they toured with the Fianz earlier this year?) will also apparently be there, totes awkward in the corner, I bet. I'll just be doing my awkward thing on the dancefloor.

Must be what's best for me, ooh.

How was everybody's Thanksgiving?!

My weekend was incredibly busy, and it didn't end today (Monday)! Let me backtrack, and I'll try to do this in a succinct manner:

Jesse and I packed up the car and the kitten on Wednesday and headed out on our three-hour drive to central Massachusetts which ended up taking six hours (yep). But we were so happy to arrive and be greeted by my mom, dad, and brother!

The next day we headed up to New Hampshire for the annual reunion. We were greeted by a 700-pound dog. A mastiff, I believe it is called:

Anyway, there were ten other dogs, and I stayed by Jesse's side. He really is the bestest. Because he knew I was apprehensive about having to spend a day up there in my always-awkward state, and he did a lot of talking and it really put me at ease. There was a lot of wedding questions and whatnot, but that's to be expected. And it's not as dire a subject as "what are you doing with your future?!" Because I know. Yay!

My Uncle Arthur and my dad!

Dude and me.

My brother Travis and my cousin James.

The family played football after the delicious meal (not me, ha) and Jesse seemed winded, but made it through like a champ.

(Jesse, at the beginning of the game, of course.)

The next day we did Thanksgiving in Rhode Island at my Tia Kim and Uncle Arthur's house. This is my favourite day of the long weekend because we get to see all our Rhode Island friends and family. Jesse taught me cribbage and we played a lot of that!

On Saturday I went shopping with my mom, got a haircut, and then we bought a Christmas tree and decorations!! It's Our First Christmas Tree! My dad helped us strap it to the rental and then we had a lovely dinner at a local Greek pizza place and then saw Australia. LOVE. I love, love, loved it! And I despise Nicole Kidman! But I love Baz & Hugh & the general feel of the epic. I'll probably write about this more soon, since 2008 is almost up (omg it's December...) and it's already managed to get into my top ten of the year film-wise.

Keanu had great fun at my parent's house and enjoyed hanging out on the couch with all of us. Of course, everybody fell in love with him as well. On Sunday, Jesse and I made brunch for my parents and then they made us dinner during the Patriots game (let's not talk about that) and then it was time for us to head back home. We packed up and this time the ride really was only three hours!

Today was a crazy-busy day at work and there's something up with my left eye and when I came home apartment 410 totally got festive by decorating our tree! All gold! Erica baked cookies! We played Christmas movies! Yeah!

In all, I have so much and so many people to be thankful for! Also, thank you for the comments regarding Keanu's first car trip and my hairs - you're awesome! And now I must end this hastily written post because I'm exhausted!

(Why, yes, I may or may not have decorated the cats in the holiday spirit as well... tree pics to come!)

Now it's a pleasure to keep.

Thanksgiving update to come; for now -

You know how I don't like my hair totally stick-straight after haircuts? Everywhere I go in New York always makes my hair look so drab - no matter how much or little I pay or if it's in Midtown or SoHo. I don't get the obsession.

Today my mom took me to her salon here in central Massachusetts. What's this - a blowdry with body?! Thank you.
