Sun turns the evening to rose.

Last night I kicked Jesse out of the apartment for two hours while me and the cats prepared a Valentine's Day feast. Now, I know when we go to fancy restaurants, Jesse loves to order the meatloaf - and I've never been a big fan. But I decided to show my culinary love through a home-baked loaf of meat. It was much easier than I anticipated, and I rounded it out with some potatoes au gratin and string beans with bacon. I sent Jesse on a mission to make a cocktail to go along with dinner, and e-mailed him this yummy-sounding drink. I also picked up a walnut brownie (for him) and a red velvet cupcake (for me).

He loved it! Of course.

It was quite delicious and we ended up very, very full. So we sat on the couch to watch L.A. Confidential, which is one of my top ten movies of all time. He'd never seen it and I loved watching it in blu-ray.

Then we ate dessert and snuggled to Alec Baldwin and the Jonas Brothers hosting SNL. We ended up being super-tired (all that food!) right after the show and forgot to open our cards to each other. This morning we did - and yeah:

I mean, I know I've said we're gross before. But I think we outdid ourselves here. We got each other the same card. And we wrote almost the exact same thing inside them.

Yeah.

Loved him by Tuesday afternoon.

I usually spend Valentine's Day with Desmond Hume. You know, from LOST. And Erica. Me, Desmond, Erica, and our couch. That's how it's been the last two years! And let me tell you, I only have fond memories of those nights.

Well, this year Erica is out of town and Jesse is IN town and Valentine's Day doesn't fall on a Wednesday. Oh, how the universe has triangulated to make me face this day! I mean, it's just another day. I told Jesse I didn't want to go out to eat because I don't think even I could stomach all the Valentine couples in the restaurants and streets. It's like a weird stigma of pressure to celebrate if you're in a couple. We are kind of just gross all the time; there's no need to designate a day.

We're not doing presents, but I told him I'd make him dinner and he's going to provide cocktails. Then we'll probably play backgammon or cribbage and watch Saturday Night Live, because we're also nearly eighty years old. But writing all that out just made me smile. Because we do what we do, and we love each other, and we smile together. We're happy. And we remember that every day, not just today - whether together or apart.

And gets me into my favourite mood.

If it weren't for the downpour outside, I'd be jauntily skipping out of work today come 5 o'clock. Wait, scratch that. I'll probably still do it, G. Kelly style, because it's the WEEKEND.

What ever am I doing?

Tonight I'm packing up, watching the debates, and going to Jonah's 45th birthday party. I am jazzed for the debates, because it seems like such a finally moment, and I want to hear some actual discourse between the two candidates. But, let's be honest, the real reason I'm excited is because I bought Erica, Jesse, and myself minz American flags a few weeks ago for this exact purpose - so we could sit on the couch and wave them when a good point is made during the debate and say "here, here." We kind of get into it at our apartment; we don't believe in half-assing anything. Even debate-watching.

TOMORROW! Erica, Gaby, and I are heading to Providence, RI! We're meeting up with Jesse and MCS, and my family! I'm so excited! The afternoon will be spent with my parents, bro Travio, and my aunt, uncle, cousin, fianz and friends eating up a birthday meal, and then the Motion City Soundtrack show @ Lupo's, then birthday partying! YEAH. I KNOW. STOKED.

On Sunday, the actual day of my birth twenty-five years ago, I'm heading with Jesse on his bus to New Haven for another show and hangs with Katie Brown & Lauren & continue the general theme of the weekend of YAY! FUN! MY FRIENDS RULE!

And of course, I'm super super super super super super super stoked about hanging with the Fianz. :)
