Maybe it's trite but I can always be wrong.

Let me explain.

Last night Zan and I had our monthly meeting at Whiskey Park to delve into serious discussion over peartinis, and per usual, we got into books. Zan and I started talking about 2666's lovely box-set packaging, and how design can make a world of difference in wanting to read a book. I then chose that moment to woefully pull out my copy of what I was currently reading: Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.

Many, many people have suggested I read this book. Plus, Carrabba wrote that song "Ender Will Save Us All," a direct reference, and thus I was sold. So, after misplacing the copy of it my dad gave me years ago, which looked like this:

You know - a regular sci-fi book, no big deal - Last year I ordered it off Amazon and this is what the package held:

And it's been sitting on my shelf until now because it looks like the cover for a 5th grader - nay! 4th grader.

Zan laughed hysterically and snapped the picture above of my shame. Remember, I read mainly on my subway commute, and so I publicly display my literature every morning and evening. I wouldn't say I take it too seriously, but I did refuse to read Twilight on my commute. I hope people at least recognize the title to know that it's a legitimate novel, and I didn't steal some kid's school book. All that said, I am enjoying Ender's Game - though I'm going to need a different copy for the library I'm planning for in my future!

And so, Zan and I had another great evening dishing on various subjects, including the current state of celebrity compared to the 50s and 60s, her love of Brit rock in the 90s and my love of alternative in the 90s, the complete lameness of a number of bands these days, her trip to Italy, and the elusive Whiskey Park Twitterer. The WPT never got back to us except after we had left and with a simple smile! What a tease! We asked our waitress bringing out the peartinis who the WPT was and she didn't even know they had a Twitter. BUM OUT. There's always next time, though - right?

Just to be over then back to another one.

Look, it's been a pretty busy week all around so I haven't had time to post! It'll be much better after this weekend. Should I list it all out for you?

On Monday, I met up for post-work drinks with Zan - a monthly ritual. It includes amazing Pear Martinis. We sit at a table by the window of Whiskey Park, a bar on Central Park South. We talk about a myriad of things, but this past Monday we saw many a suit pass by and deduced that these were people having to do with the Fox up-fronts. They were going into Central Park following signs that said "FOX" and big balloons with "GLEE" written on them. It was pretty sad how much detective work we did when all we really had to do was ask one of the suits. Or, ya know, make our brains work faster. These monthly get-togethers are so much fun, though, and I'm looking forward to June's!

I'm still pining the Pine. In fact. Look at this picture of Chris Pine & Zoe Saldana in Japan -

Could a blond crack my Top Five?! On a related note, somebody coined the term "Pine Flu" on the internet this morning, and I'm taking it.

Also, Zan attempted to guess my Top Five just from reading this blog, and she was very close except she included Keanu Reeves! Keanu is totally a fascination, not a crush. He hasn't written me in a while... Anyway, can you guess my Top Five?

I'm currently reading the 900-page behemoth that is 2666 by Roberto Bolano. I love it so far. The version I have is split into three books/volumes, so I'm getting mighty ambitious with this cross-country trip - I'm bringing all three. I've got really long flights...

I got a good haircut in New York! Yes! And it wasn't too expensive, meaning, I shall be going back. They took off a few inches (my hair is getting long long long) and it's all healthy and fun now. I'm excited to know there's someone I can turn to in the city for my haircutting needs - and it won't cost me $100. Whatchoo think?

On Tuesday night, I accompanied Erica to Trainwreck, where Dave Holmes was guest-DJing, and the fellows from Passion Pit were there to celebrate their latest release, Manners! Check it out! It was a fun time, and Mr. Holmes (remember that guy who lost to Jesse Camp in that MTV VJ contest but then continued to have a better career with MTV than the winner? THAT'S Dave Homes) was a very nice dude.

Last night I had a lovely date with Kells and Erica at Sweet Emily's (addicted, fact.) and we've decided to continue this three-fifths of Curbside tradition for a weekly date. Next week? Possibly...perhaps...seeing Star Trek again. Kelly hasn't seen it!! And I think I've convinced her with my flurry of Pine pictures. I think I've infected her. PINE FLU!

Then Erica and I came home, watch Kris Allen win American Idol as the Entertainment Weekly with Adam Lambert sat on our coffee table, and then I packed and I'M LEAVING TODAY AT NOON FOR LOS ANGELES!

Jesse awaits me and I couldn't be more excited to see my dude and get some FACETIME in. Sporadic updates will ensue this weekend, but I should be back to full-fledged afterwards.

What are you doing for Memorial Day Weekend?

And the ships off shore hold stories that we'd make.

It's Friday! FRIDAY!! My most favourite of days!

So this week, Jesse, Kelly, Erica Z., and myself went back to Sweet Emily's in Hell's Kitchen. The last time I went there with my mother and her friends was absolutely amazing and delicious, and it wasn't a fluke. Everything was absolutely delectable! So, I'm spreading the word for this new little baby restaurant on 51st Street between 8th & 9th Avenue, because it's only two months old and I'd really like it to thrive so that I have somewhere awesome and affordable to go to in the future. If you're in Manhattan, hit it up! I even signed up with Yelp and Zagat in order to give it a good rating.

Yesterday after work I met up with Zan at Whiskey Park to discuss Anna Karenina, among other topics. Some great things about this - 1. Nobody else I know that works in the city gets off at 5pm like I do, so I'm usually waiting around the office for someone to get off or crashing their offices awkwardly. 2. Zan and I live in the same city and met through our mutual friend Kristy, who lives in LA. We've never hung out unless Kristy is in town. Last night, we rectified that. 3. Whiskey Park is between our offices and we had such a lovely time that we're going planning on doing this at least once a month! We talked about books, Goodreads.com, the Internets, and New York. Also, hair and bang-cutting tips and tricks. 4. Peartinis. That is all.

Tonight is games night at our apartment! And Jesse leaves this weekend for LA...for four months... so we're doing it up! YES!
