Cause your words don't translate.

On Monday, I had the full intention of taking to my blog about my weekend and what I thought about the movies He's Just Not That Into You and Fanboys. I planned on talking about my burgeoning domesticity and "apartment projects" like getting shelves for kitchen cabinets and cleaning out the closet. I was prepared to articulate the ways in which Jesse busies himself with new power tools and wood.

Unfortunately, I've been busy!

So, that's your summary of my weekend. Except to say that last night over a beer, I was talking with two ladies who hadn't seen the piece of turd that is He's Just Not... and apparently I have too many words to say about a movie that shouldn't really matter that much. I'm going to be short: Kells, Erica, Gaby and I went to see it on Friday night, and in a packed theater of 99% women - most of whom were completely engrossed and related to every inanity of the sweeping caricatures of the females in the film. The four of us left the theater and looked at each other and were like, "So..." and somebody (I can't recall who) goes, "LAME!" And we all agreed and started talking about how we were slightly offended as women and overtly offended that such a poorly-edited, crappily-written movie would manage a green-light. Seriously. And, one more thing about the editing: nearly every scene was about a minute and thirty seconds tops, with storylines juxtaposed from something entirely depressing (like death) to a party scene with flirting - it was jarring. Don't even get me started on the prettily tied-up ending. The good thing was that we all were like, "I'm so glad you all are my friends." We were all on the same page - which seemed to be a very, very different one from some of the women sitting around us in the theater. A whole different book, if you will.

Also, Scarlett Johanssen is one of the most awful actresses in the business.

Okay, I think I'm done. Apologies. I'm just writing what I'm thinking at this point. That said, Fanboys is a budget movie about Star Wars geeks, and while totally, totally cheesy and bad, it was surprisingly enjoyable, if only for the references, the cameos, and the fact that the producer, Kevin Spacey, got the cast on the actual Skywalker Ranch to film part of the movie. I would go looking for Spacey's amazing Star Wars Lost Auditions skit from SNL in the 90s on YouTube, but I'm at work. Perhaps I'll remember later - because they're golden.

ANYWAY!

Last night I saw Lily Allen and was quite underwhelmed by the whole business. The band played to backing tracks, which made the songs quite boring. I thought, I've heard this. On your album. On my iPod. The new songs haven't quite been made into riveting live diddies (diddies? ditties? whatever...), mainly because not many people knew the songs nor are they as energy-driven and bombastic as Alright, Still. Of course, it WAS a free show in a small venue - hopefully this just amounts to poor planning and execution as a one-off, and she'll be back in April at Roseland in full force. Still love her, and she looked adorbs. Also, Amazon has her new album on sale for 3.99 now - get it!

After the show, Jesse and I went to Trainwreck to see...everyone. We had some fun dancing and seeing all those lovely faces. I think the best part of that party is the secrets; it's like Vegas but not as gross. Okay, sometimes it can be as gross. I don't know what I'm saying. Just, that's it's fun and there's usually something gossip-worthy going down. It cracks me up to sit back and watch it. And when I don't go, Erica has the best stories. Ha!

In lieu of having no pictures of last night at the moment - Jesse got a lomography camera so he has to get those developed, and Jiscilla hasn't posted hers yet - I bring you two of Katie Brown's polaroids from Perry's Mad Men birthday party a few weeks ago:

I ain't freakin', I ain't fakin' this.

(Katie Brown, me, Gaby!)

Yay Trainwreck Winter Formal! Yay awkward! I had tons of fun! Each week I feel so proud of Erica (& Rob, whatevs) for putting together a smashing party. Those two really do work hard to provide a) jams b) drinks c) hilarity and d) the ocassional semi-famous guest star. I also call Perry their Partner in Crime - she supplies the hour-long open bar every Tuesday as part of her job.

And so, I had one gripe on Tuesday that had to do with the fact that some of the people there were total rudemeisters. In one instance, two girls were talking to each other in the VERY crowded bar and I politely said, "excuse me" as I tried making my way from the bar to my friends. She looked at me and rolled her eyes as I stood there with drinks and smiling. Then I said it louder and she moved about 2 centimeters. I said it a third time, and with no response I shoved past her and they began muttering under their breath. Now, honestly, who cares, right? It was like two seconds of my life, some people suck, and WHO CARES.

When I got to my friends, I was talking to Perry about the rude interchange and she said that her and Erica had just been handed the stink treatment from those same two. They were elbowing and pushing Erica and Perry repeatedly. When Erica and Perry moved, they even had the gall to walk up to them and say, "Are you talking shit about us?" Erica and Perry obviously were a bit shocked, because they acutally weren't talking about the girls. They just said no and turned away.

Here's what I would have said if I had been standing there.

"Oh, hi. Do you realize just how pathetically rude you're being and to whom? This is Erica, she's Rob Hitt's right hand gal and co-chair of this here party. In fact, she's up to DJ next. The reason Brendan Urie is here and why, I'm guessing, you are, is because of her and Rob. And that drink you have in your hand? Yeah, that was provided to you by my friend here, Perry. She's here every week, as well, making fun happen. So, sorry Brendan is most assuredly going home with that peroxide blond tonight, but at least you have these two girls here making sure your night is full of music and booze - for free."

GAR! I hate rude people! Especially when my lovely friends get the brunt of it. Manners, people, c'mon. Everybody's just trying to have fun and you're stankin' (skankin'?) up the place!

Okay, I feel better now. Back to the regularly-scheduled festivities.

Do not cross my friends.

Love.

Meik! took the two pics above and this one here of Jesse and Sean talking...or something.

Mike & I! You can see the sequin-age!

And now in color!
Hey...cool, I don't look that awkward. Just a little squinty.

Oh, wait, there it is. AWKWARD TOWN.

I mean, I believe I said, "let's take an awks prom picture!"
I just didn't think we'd be so accurate in my direction.
Stiff arms (check!), weird hand positions (check!), messed up hair (check!), hints of an ill-fitting dress (check!), wan facial expressions (check!) and mysterious shadows (check!)
Done and DONE.

My Top Artists this Week (Sep 8 - Sep 14)

(via my last.fm)

I knew I'd get obsessed with Dragonette when I first heard them! I've been listening non-stop and I Surrender will be releasing it in the U.S. on October 14th digitally, and in stores on October 28th. On my last recommendation, Paula of Insert My Blog Name Here bought the album (she's in the UK, where it was already released) and became a fan -

Get into it before everybody else does, right? ;)

I'm also so totally stoked for tomorrow and Friday nights because Dragonette are playing BOTH nights and my friends and I are ready to dance. I'll obviously let you know how they are live - I have high hopes and I don't think they'll disappoint.

By the way, Trainwreck was a great success last night, and due to the word getting out about tv cameras in the midst of AK every Tuesday, the place is more packed than ever! Also, Ryan (Take the Crown) is in town visiting Perry, and stepped in to guest-DJ as Hi Deaf. Rob and Erica obviously continue to dominate the dance party jams! AND, surprise, surprise, I got a call from Steve (Monty Are I) yesterday, my dear old friend, and he was in town for the night, so I made him join the fun. Great to see him, as always; I'm super excited for the new Monty Are I album, which the band will be recording in LA for the next couple of months. The great night continued when I got home and got to video chat with Jesse, which hasn't happened in a while due to Fail Internet, but I fell asleep smiling per usual.

And, OH HEY, guess who's having a joint birthday party next week?!?!

PS, thanks for all the feedback regarding my last post and Twilight, I'm still taking any opinions, and will be tallying it soon to see if I read or not. Again, lots of polarizing feelings about this series exist!

PS2, don't forget to join my blog network if you have Facebook, and feel free to add me as a friend!
